As part of my New Year’s Resolution to be more Grateful I’m going to write a little list of all the beautiful, magical things in my world for which I am thankful of each week. Please feel free to add your own!
- Summer It might still be frosty in the Northern Hemisphere but down here we are enjoying the height of summer. Dry sunny days, blazing blue skies and hundreds of people flocking to Perth’s perfect beaches. I love Summer, especially enjoyed from a shaded hammock or nice airconditioned room with iced tea and a good book!
- Falling in Love So many of my friends seem to be finding love lately, it makes me all warm and fuzzy to see! I think last year was a tough year for a lot of people, but I hope this year brings much happier and more hopeful times.
- The Virgin Suicides I watched this for the first time the other night with Sabrina! I love Sophia Coppola films but had never seen this classic. The cinematography alone is to die for and I love the imagery and their pretty dresses. All the stills in this post are from the Virgin Suicides (1999)
- Shaved Ice Delicious shaved milk ice with all sorts of sweet syrups and toppings, its even more refreshing than icecream. I especially like the place in Northbridge because they also have Japanese magazines to flip through and gashapon machines!
- Diaries I have a cute red journal for this year that fits perfectly in my handbag. Each day I write in appointments with little stars and mark to-do list items with hearts in between I draw little pictures about my day and emotes wearing crowns. I love seeing people’s diaries and notebooks, they’re all works of art.
- 60’s French Pop I’ve been listening to a lot of old French Pop lately, it just makes it feel more like summer to me. I especially love Brigitte Bardot, Françoise Hardy, France Gall and Chantal Goya. Listen Here!

Ooh? You like summer? Well I don’t! :’D We live in the same hemisphere, but I totally despise summer. Oh well, we all have different tastes. Summer fries my brain~
I have heard about the Virgin Suicides, but haven’t watched it myself. I watched A Clockwork Orange yesterday, it was very interesting, like if I was dreaming something weird. What’s your movie about? <3
I love diaries, falling in love, and shaved ice as well! Do you have Moleskines in Australia? I’m going in one month (!!!) and I’d like to purchase one, as there aren’t moleskines here where I live.
Thank you <3
I don’t much care for summer either! It gets so hot and humid here that is is just unbearable in July and August. It’s usually over 38 C [or 100 F] daily!
It’s going to get that hot where I live!
There aren’t any vintage stores in my town where I can buy cute summer dresses either… in what country do you live?
I think there is something beautiful about every season, though Spring is my favourite.
Yes, you can buy Moleskines in Australia! My diary is one.
My favourites are Fall and Winter. I want to wear my new fleece coat already! It’s pink and so fuzzy…
Can you show us your diary (if it’s not too personal) someday? Like if it was something you see in the jr__nal community only. (:
Summer is but a sweet dream here in the States! It is, indeed, my favorite as well but I am so looking forward to spring here in the Ozark Mountains. There is nothing to compare to watching life burst forth from the earth once more.
Your list is wonderful, Skye! I’ll have to investigate this French 60s pop you mentioned; it sounds straight up my alley! Just now, I’m most grateful for a wonderful set of parents who inspire me everyday, my soon-to-begin Chaucer literature course, and my new digital camera, heh.
I love your little list Casi, I’m very grateful for my Parents too!
Great entry! I think I shall have to do a list too.. Your site always brightens my day. <3
Thank you Katt! I would love to read your list.
I tried reading The Virgin Suicides, but was unable to really get interested in the story as much as I tried. I was originally propelled to by the imagery from the film, and I think that I might just find the film more interesting than the book. I should definitely get to watching it so I can have my answer, and because everyone who has seen the film liked it.
I imagine the book would be rather different, what I liked about the film was also the imagery rather than the story.
I miss the summer. It’s cold and we’ve had freezing rain and snow.
I may need to get myself a pocket journal. I need one to jot down the creative lines that come to my head now and then. And drawings too.
I hope you have a lovely spring to look forward too Amber!
Yes, I like pocket sized notebooks too, they fit nicely in my handbag.
I love the music. It makes me feel like I am in a Miyazaki film when I listen to the slower ones. They always have scenes in the cobblestone towns, with a small summer breeze blowing the curtains in the open window as this type of music plays. It’s such a timeless feeling. It also reinstates my desire to have a phonograph shaped radio! ♥
Oh, what a perfect description Korin! Thats just what its like. It simply feels like summer to me.
Summer is my favorite season, I live in Florida in the US, so I have summertime weather most of the year!
I love 60’s French pop! ♥
I’d love to visit Florida some time, I hear you have beautiful weather and its a bit like Perth!
Last year was the best year of my life, even though it was terribly spoilt by one simple question and one stupid answer. It was the best.
I hope this year can be just a tiny bit like last year but trust me it’s not going well at all. =(
*hugs* I’m sorry to hear that Rosebud, I hope 2009 brings you some beautiful new opportunities.
Thank you so much, same to you!
oh i very much enjoy shaved ice as well.. it’s soo yummy. my mom and i fix it with tapioca bubbles, grass jelly, and mung beans with sweetened condensed milk. yumm.
That sounds delicious Kitten! You’re lucky to be able to make it at home.
Oh yum! I’ve never ever had shaved ice but it sounds really tasty.
My favorite seasons are summer and fall. Summer is just so beautiful and bright, Fall is so relaxing and breezy…^_^
I love keeping diaries. I can’t imagine life before I started to keep one! I discover so much about myself by writing things down. Also now I’ll be able to see them in the future and remember all the things that happened “way back when”!
I must see The Virgin Suicides now!
The stills from the movie are just too pretty!!!
I feel the same way about Diaries! I would love to get back in to the habit of keeping a daily record (mine is more of an organizer) but at least I have online journals too!
How wonderful! I love Spring and early Summer when I can just lay about and relax.
I also love wearing sundresses and the pretty clothes that come out during both seasons.
I haven’t watched The Virgin Suicides yet but I really want to, even more now! The pictures are lovely.
It is such a pretty time of year. I hope you enjoy the movie!
French pop is so refreshing! I fell in love with the song “Moi je Joue” after I saw the Miss Dior Cherie commercial directed by Sophia Coppola aswell
Oh, I love that song! I shall have to look up the commercial.
I would love to see your diary, if it’s not too personal. It sounds cute!
I just love seeing other people’s diaries. Even if some call them journals. <3
I love the idea of writing down what you are grateful for.
