I don’t think you can have the romantic balls with the waltzes and the classical music anywhere except Vienna these days. You can still have stunning balls though! I went to one in Oxford where they had done the whole Union building up for the ball. Outside, there were burning torches and a marquee, done up to look opulently 1930s. (The theme was Hollywood Glamour). Inside, the library was set aside for the cloakroom, but all the other rooms had a different feel, a different theme. Seeing as this is a university in England, a lot was centered around drinking, but that can’t really be helped, I guess. The modern music was contained in the debating chamber, the rest was live and jazzy.

If you ever find yourself planning to go to England in early May or mid-to-late June in the next four years, I might be able to get you one (but probably just the one) ticket for a college ball. At college balls, the entire college is used for the ball - very large affairs. I’m missing my own college ball, but I’m in Japan, so I can’t really complain.

Princess, I am certain that Tiffy will have been the Belle of the Ball after Your and Mirai’s clever attentions. Hopefully You and Your Prince will find a suitable ball for Your pleasure, or perhaps You could examine the possibility of promoting such a wonderful social event.

Sofia Yes, a carnival ball in Venice would be maginificent! A real masquerade.
Porcelain Princess I heartily agree, the school balls these days seem more like fancy discos, there's no real classical dance or music.

My sympathies to the Prince, I suffer from migraines myself on occasion and those are never fun. Glad he is feeling better!
I agree, real, old fashioned type balls would be lovely, and they’d give people more chances to dress up.

Yes, Sofia, I understand what do you mean by “fake”. As an example, I won’t assist to my school ball because, well, there is only one waltz, I think? The rest will be popular music. And the dresses? No magic, no romance, only indecency and decolletes. I wish of a ball were there would be grand classical pieces and true elegance.

Some student societies around here throws balls about once a year or so, but I think these “modern” student balls feels…fake. I can´t really explain it in words at the moment, but they just don´t have an air of romance around them anymore.

I would really love to attend a carnival ball in Venice though…
