Furniture Shopping

Today the Prince and I went furniture shopping, not to buy anything specifically but merely to browse and look for inspiration and consider future decor possibilites. I am fortunate in that we share similar tastes, mostly Louis XVI, Queen Anne and Victorian styles. I like a mix of classic styles, much like the Victorians did though I tend to favour the lighter woods, fabrics and neo-classical/rococo wheras the Prince likes mahogany and leather, darker more gothic styles.

We visited a chinese furniture shop that had a lot of nice replicas, and even some chairs with gold and blue crown upholstery! After which we continued to Early Settlers which stocks some marvelous items, including a four poster carved bed which was so breathtaking we decided we must aquire one in the future, I want to give it pale french blue drapes and ivory and pink linens. There was one item which I may actually purchase soon, it is the cheval mirror pictured here. Not the most beautiful one I’ve ever seen, but far more within my price range. I have needed a full length mirror for so long that I am not quite as fussy as usual. I am quite fond of its shape though, it has a little engraving of roses at the head.

This evening we watched The Count of Monte Cristo, the newer adaption with Richard Harris. The Prince was not familiar with the story so it was lovely to see him enjoy it, and I quite like the adaption which I have seen before. Le Comte de Monte Cristo is one of my favourite books and I dream of someday learning french fluently enough to read the original.

    Princess, Here is hoping another of Your wishes comes true - the four-poster bed is a very elegant piece of furniture. I love the idea of the drawn curtains excluding the rest of the world from the magical world of Your bedtime slumber. Your plans for the drapes and linen makes it sound so much more mystical.

    Ooh, furniture shopping, I never thought of that before! I could refurnish my whole bedroom — Although my Mum might get a little fussy about that, since all of the furniture in my room is antique …

    Hmm … Best wait until I get my own little palace. ^u^

    I haven’t heard of The Count of Monte Cristo before! But Richard Harris is — Was — A great actor, so I’m sure it’d be a great movie. ^^

    ((May you Rest In Peace Mr Harris.))

    *laughs* Honestly, you’ve done just to remind me of all the furniture I need to buy for my room. I must first start with a vanity set, and then a lamp plus a bedstand.

    Nigel ~ I adore four posters and canopies, I always like seeing pictures of bedrooms in palaces, with their grand beds topped with ostrich plumes and crowns.
    Princesse de Porcelaine ~ Thank you so much for your kind offer! I may just have to take you up on it ^_~ my french is very rudimentary, basically just what I’ve picked up off my mother.
    Mallory ~ Oh! You must watch The Count of Monte Cristo, or read the book some day, its such a clever story. You are very fortunate to have antique furniture in your room, I’m sure I wouldn’t want to replace it either.
    Abbie - The quest for the perfect vanity is ongoing for me aswell :/

    Just on The Count of Monte Cristo, there’s an anime version called Gankutsuo ^^
    Though I have not seen the original, I believe the Count is not meant to be kind of like a vampire…^^;;

    I’m happy! You would be the second person I help with french :)
    I know a really good website for the ones who wish to speak french and currently speak english. But the best is really the practice. Since I think you told before you didn’t wanted to give your e-mail adress, maybe you can just e-mail me when you have the time (in french of course ;) ) and we could start the online french class -_^

    Sur ce, Mademoiselle, je vous souhaite une excellente journée. Mille choses aimables autour de vous!
