Last night was my first Ballet lesson! I had to leave quickly after work to meet Sanyu at the bus station, and pick up some dinner on the way. We hadn’t been to the Dance school before so we were both a bit nervous about getting lost, but the bus driver was really helpful and we got there on time!
The dance class we’re taking is Adult Beginner Ballet, as neither of us have danced for years and its more comfortable to be starting with other people our age and older who are at similar levels. We met the instructor when she arrived, I like her attitude, she’s pretty strict but still understanding since we are new. I think she threw us in the deep end a little though, we did the same exercises as everyone else and just tried to keep up for most of it!
I realised that I’ve lost a lot of my flexibility, although the stretches are the same as those I used to do for Irish Dance, so I’m going to get back in to the habit of stretching every day to try and improve that. It was interesting for me to pick up the differences between the styles, having a bar to work with is nice! Ballet is so beautiful too, the arm movements are particularly graceful.
Thanks to Sanyu for coming with me and to our Instructor and the other students who were really nice and said I have good ‘turn out.’ Can’t wait for next weeks lesson!

I can’t wait either! I hope the muscle man goes often; he’s good to follow :3
Oh, congratulations, Princess Skye!
I’ve been wondering when you’d take your lessons ever since you’ve alluded to it loooong ago!
Do you know if your class will perform at the end of the classes? Or is it just classes?
Your first experience seems so similar to mine as I was trying just to keep up with everybody else. During the first half of the year, the madame ((Madame Alexandra, a Russian Ballet Teacher)) pretty much left me alone in the scolding area, and only corrected me in things that I could and should learn, like the position of the arms, and such.
I wish you the best of luck, and if ou need it you should get a book to translate all the terminations for the ballet moves…unless your teacher doesn’t use them. =)
Wow! How exiting! Ballet is so beautiful! I bet you doing great =)
How nice! I wanted to do balet too, so I asked my mum when I was like 12/13. She said no becasuse kids start from such a young age. I was dispointed at the time.
Oh, how wonderful, Skye-hime! ^^ I remember taking a lot of dance lessons when I was younger. They’re a wonderful way to increase your strength, flexibility, and grace at the same time. And it’s the ideal lolita hobby! ^^
Much luck~
Ballet lessons that sounds fun. I use to take ballet lessons when I was little but sadly the dance school I went to closed down and by the time my parents found another dance school I could go to, we could no longer afford it so I had to quite. I thought about taking it up again, but then I thought I was much too old for such a thing. Then I thought I was silly for thinking of such a thing you’re never to old to do anything you truly want to do. I hope I can try it out in the future but now I am way to busy.
Oh wow, I just started taking adult beginner ballet as well a few weeks ago, what a coincidence! (Although, unlike you, my turnout is quite bad. ;_; ) It’s somewhat difficult, but quite fun and rewarding, eh? Well, good luck with your classes!
Ohhh… Irish dance sounds just as exciting as ballet!
I wish you good luck with Ballet. I’ve been taking for years, and it’s become a passion of mine. I hope you can enjoy as much as I do. haha :’]
i’ve been wanted to get into ballet myself
but i cannot find ballet lessons for adults
i’d have to take a class with little kids, haha
good luck with it ♥
