Candy Cult Exhibition

Outside the Breadbox

Today was the warmest day we’ve had in a while. Summer is just beginning here, and I spent the lovely sunshiney day outdoors shopping with Sab. We were on a bit of a mission to find some items for a collaboration we have coming up, however we ended up spending a lot of the day browsing various stores and people watching for inspiration. We also visited the new Wheels and Doll Baby store on king street, the decor inside is gorgeous! Velvet curtains, chandeliers, ostrich plumes and antique furniture. It almost reminds me of the Jesus Diamante stores in japan. Some of the clothes are beautiful as well, I loved the embroidered cardigans and Sab was a fan of the tulle skirts.

Breadbox Gallery

After we’d finished shopping we headed down to the Breadbox gallery to check out the Candy Cult exhibition. Candy Cult is a showcase of character art from talented designers and artists both local and international. Chisa had some of her art displayed and it was great to see her adorable characters in full colour cut outs on the walls. I especially loved her signature character which you can see in the picture below with a paint brush.

The art was actually very diverse, although it all fitted the theme. The characters ranged from adorable, to creepy to grotesque which made an interesting and colourful juxtaposition. There was pixel art, vector art and lineart featuring unsual monsters, smiling chibis and common objects with uncommon faces.

Sab makes a new friend

They had two large installations, boxes painted to make 3d versions of the characters, they were quite impressive close up and we were especially fond of this blue guy. I’m really glad we had the chance to see the exhibition, my Mother is an artist so I’ve been to many such events in the past and this was definitely something fresh and new! Youcan find the details on their website.

Oh, I love this kind of art. It’s so bright and colorful and kind of cute in a way.
A few weeks ago, I was on an art exhibition too. The artists were all still unknown art students but some of the paintings were amazing. I espescially liked the ones with a lot of detail. I love drawings or paintings in which you can “walk around” or “get lost”, if that make sense.

The exhibition you visited sounds fascinating Payette! I agree that some artworks you can definitely get lost in, they’re little worlds of their own.

Your friend’s characters are lovely! I’m glad to hear you had fun. That yellow dress you wear seems to be lovely too!

That looks fun. That last picture of the character and your friend is really cute.

It’s so hard to imagine summer starting! It’s just starting to get chilly here. I had actually considered relocating to Australia after I got my degree, but I think the seasons would just turn my world upside down … literally!

They look very cute together, don’t they?

Australia has beautiful weather though, or at least where I live we do. Its sunny for most of the year and only really hot for a few months of that.
