Marie Antoinette Beehive Makeover

Last Sunday, in the wee hours of the morning I was paid a visit by Sab for a little makeover experiment. Last time we transformed Sab in to a Hime Gyaru Princess and today’s style was to be a Beehive on me!

Trying to keep quiet so as not to wake the other sleeping beauties in the house, Sab went to work in the bathroom with a straightener/curler, three packets of hair pins, a lot of hair spray and a toilet paper roll. That latter was a clever idea that Sab found on a tutorial video, which served instead of a hair piece to create volume. It was amusing, but I’m not sure how I’d feel about wearing one on my head all day!

Sab used the straightener first to curl my hair, running it through the sections as one would curl a ribbon. I have never seen this done before and was surprised at how well it works, I want to get a straightener of my own now to try it out! After I had a head of bouncy curls, she put the toilet roll on the crown of my head and started teasing the curls and pinning them in to the roll. This process took quite a while, but when it was done I had a giant conical beehive. We decided that some flowers and ribbon might help decorate it and I think the effect is somewhat Marie Antoinette mixed with the 60’s!

It was a fun experiment, I love doing this creative makeovers and am excited about the next one we try. You can read more instructions and find links to the videos that inspired this over at sabatomic.

I bloody love using my straightener to curl. It looks so much better than when I use my curling tongs. I look forward to your getting one :)

♥ This hairstyle on you!

This This hairstyle looks so beautiful!
It was a great idea to decorate it with the ribbon and the flowers… maybe a tiara or a nice comb would have created a totally different look. This one looks really girly and romantic! ^^ There are so many ways to work with this style! Amazing~ O_O

Great ideas there! You could definitely add different accessories to change the look or leave the fringe down for something different again.

Thank you so much Ashley! I think you definitely need longish hair for this style unfortunately.

It has me thinking of Grecian maidens. It does look very good on you, for such a bold hairstyle.

Thank you Katarina, you’re right, it would work for a grecian style outfit too!

that is absolutely HILARIOUS!
but a great idea if you haven’t got time to make a rat, which is proably lighter and not as awkwad feeling/sounding ;D

you do look very nice though, and I wouldn’t have known that you had a roll of TP on your head if you hadn’t mentioned it ;) was it heavy though?

um o.o
There is no toilet paper ON her hair. The toilet paper is used to fill so her hair can look like that.

It wasn’t very heavy, although the pins make it a little uncomfortable after a while.

The toilet paper roll is on top of my head, covered by the rest of my hair.

I’ve heard GHDs are good, I’m impressed out how much more natural the curls look, doing it this way!

Yay :) Love your writeups!

I just want to note also that the style would have worked better with hot rollers, rather than a straightener!
