Curtains for a Palace
Friday, May 18th, 2007
True to my word, I have been devoting my time and funds to decorating my chambers and it is very rewarding! Today’s mission was curtains. I left early in the morning and caught the train to Fremantle, a portside town. I spent the trip gazing out the window at the little bit of sunlight peeking through the clouds and picking out dappled gold patches on the otherwise grey ocean. It was an overcast day.
As soon as I arrived I went straight to my favourite store… “Store.” While the name may not seem very exciting it is filled with a marvalous array of things, both amusing, cute and elegant. I love to shop there for gifts, and also decor. Today I chose out a little vase made of milky pink glass and pink and white ostrich feathers with which to fill it. Ostrich plumes are so pretty! I can not help playing with them and running them through my hands, and can well imagine why Marie Antoinette was so fond of them!
I ate lunch at a little cafe and then went on to the Craft store to find the rest of my supplies. After about an hour standing around indescisively I finally purchased some curtains
They’re soft white organdie with rows of vines picked out in pearly white thread. I also bought some large pink silk roses and pearl chain.
When I arrived home I set the curtains up, tying a white organdie scarf across the top by way of drapery and fixing the bunches of pink roses to each corner. I also draped some pearls over the top and made the rest in to ties to pull the curtains back from the window. They’re still a little creased from being folded, but otherwise I’m really happy with them
Certainly much prettier than the rags I had in place beforehand!
