After the Rain

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

EarthViews by Jwoods It rained all morning today. The roads ran like rivers and I watched the snails crawl across my window leaving silvery trails. When it finally stopped, I went outside. The world is so beautiful after it rains, the air is fresh and sweet with a little moisture still in it. As the sun comes out and lights up each little droplet on leaf and branch, every tree and blade of grass sparkles as if draped in jewels. The most beautiful thing is a spiderweb, strung with raindrops like transparent pearls.

The sunlight seems warmer too, I let it kiss my cheek and marvel at the sky, having shed its grey cloak to reveal a brilliant blue gown, scattered with the tattered remains of clouds. Barefooted, I jump in a puddle all the same, splashing the hem of my dress. My mood seems to lift with the weather, and I wish I had a pair of yellow wellington boots so I could puddle jump some more.

I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string. - Anne of Avonlea
