I receive questions quite often about what I do for a living and how I support my ‘extravagant’ Princess lifestyle. To be honest, my lifestyle is not that expensive. I live out of home and am completely independant so I often have to budget my pin money and be a bit more creative when it comes to creating outfits, hosting parties and decorating the palace. As the Queen always said, taste is not how much you spend, it’s what you buy.
Today I decided to take my camera with me to work to give you a glimpse of where I am during the week. I work four days a week at a Naturopathic clinic. I am one of three admin staff there and we assist six lovely ladies who treat the patients. Our clinic is a part of a national company, with other offices all over australia. I am also the company web admin, and I do some graphic design for them occaisionally.
I really enjoy my job. I work with gorgeous people, and we all get along and have a laugh now and then. I get to feel like I am a part of something that is improving people’s quality of life. I love seeing patients walk in to the clinic with a smile on their face and tell me how much their health has improved. A lot of the patients have been coming to us for a long time and I get to chat with them like old friends.
Another question I’m often asked is; how one is to feel like a Princess at work? I’ve written a little on this in my last Princess Lesson, however I have my own little ways of having fun at work, I do ballet in the filing room while putting away patient files, I have my own Princess teacup to drink my tea from every day, I try to dress in my own style, one that feels feminine and pretty to me while still professional and I use all my Princess manners when dealing with patients, who often need a great deal of tolerance and kindness. I also have my little friend Spike the potplant here to keep me company!
I would like to mention that there is now a Princess Portal Page on facebook, if you add the page you can be notified of Princess Portal updates on your Facebook Homepage! My Profile is here, if you’d like to add me as a friend please leave a little message to let me know who you are. Thank you!

Wow, you look like a princess even at work ^^
Maybe it’s just the light but your hair looks a lot darker in these pictures! Did you dye them? It looks great!
Thanks Payette! Yes, I did dye my hair recently, just before my birthday. I’m glad you like it!
i was going to ask the same question
Thank you for sharing, princess Skye! I’ve been very courious! Your work seems very intresting, I would like some administration work as well. I’m unemblyeed for the moment and thats very boring. Did you need any education or studing to be able to get a job like that?
Btw, I have to tell you, Princess! I recived a postcard, a little letter and a coin from Australia today in my mailbox! From Perth! Isn’t there were you live!?
Hugs from Zelda
Thanks Zelda! I studied Natural Medicine for three years, so I have a bit of knowledge in the field which helped me get this job, but it was mostly my computer skills and webdesign experience I was hired for.
Wow! Yes, I am in Perth. Thats amazing, do you have friends visiting here?
*hugs back*
Yes I do! A friend of mine travels around in Australia right now, she just arrived so I don’t really know where she is ^^
The postcard came from another friend who have been in Australia for two years to study, I think he will stay another tree years for education.
I hope I can visit someday!
I hope your friend is enjoying her trip and you can come visit some day as well!
It’s so strange that you work in a naturopathic clinic. I’ve recently begun reading a writing blog, and the author has just posted about how much she loves her naturopathic doctor. I’ve been thinking of looking one up lately.
I love your hair, I think it looks really amazing.
Naturopathy is something I have a lot of respect for, I studied Natural Medicine for three years and the principles behind it agree with me far more than allopathic medicine.
Thank you Megs! I was worried it was a bit dark but I’m glad people like the change.
I’m just a little sad that the idea of you walking amidst puffy rows of dresses (all pink and white, for some obscure reason and resembling eighties prom gowns) is lost, but I’m sure that the pay and practicality of the job is certainly better than whatever aesthetic vision the rest of your readers have conjured up. Myself included.
And Spike, meet Larry, the fake orchid.
Hi softlights, I have worked in fashion retail before and its not as glamorous as you may think. You have to meet sales targets and be on your feet all day and it takes a lot of the pleasure away from working with beautiful things. I find my current job far more rewarding, even if not so aesthetically pleasing.
Spike says its a pleasure to meet you Larry.
Haha - I’ve never really worked retail, only fast food places (the SMELL, and the bubbling FAT and RUSH HOURS and sometimes even CUSTOMERS! Ye gods, saints preserve us! etc. etc.), but I’ve had friends who worked retail and their horror stories are certainly enlightening!
“Someone left a poo in the dressing room.”
“I’m sorry - WHAT?”
I never had any experiences quite that nasty, my goodness!
I have nothing very important to add, but I just had to say that I think your dress is beautiful! ^^ Wherever did you buy it?
Thanks Caer! There are a lot of these style of dresses in fashion this season, and throughout our last winter. This one is from a local boutique. The chiffon makes it nice and breathable!
I enjoyed this post very much. Thank you for sharing a little bit of your everday life with all of us! It’s nice to see you as a person out in the world!
Thanks Tara, its nice to add a touch of realism to PP now and again!
Oh Skye, you look so cute at work! I really hope I can get back a connection at home, and begin regularly talking to you once more!
I hope you can get the internet back soon Abbie dear, I’ve missed you so!
What a beautiful post! I’m always intrigued by your daily life, since you seem so devote to the Portal I wonder how you live and I like knowing more about you everyday!
I love that dress!
Also, I think working in a clinic is quite a princessy job. Attending patients and treating them with kindness and patience is part of a Princess’ behaviour.
Yo look like a mature, more elder (?) Princess, but still as beautiful and young and innocent as how you looked with your previous hair colour. <3
~Tsuki
Thank you Tsuki! I think working at the Clinic has definitely taught me a lot about dealing with people and being patient and considerate, all virtues of a Princess.
Thank you for your sweet comments on my hair <3
I love your dress, it’s very pretty and elegant. It’s also nice that you make the best of everything at work.
My job isn’t as professional but I do my best as well.
Thank you, I’m glad to hear you have a similar attitude to work June.
I really don’t consider my job to be ‘who I am’ but simply a part of my life, just like Princess Portal and my friends and family. If you look at it this way, its not so hard to enjoy.
Wow. Yes, it certainly did add some realism. Even though I knew it wasn’t the case, I always seemed to imagine you as a fairy princess in a castle, not doing normal things like working in an office. I knew that you did, but the portrayal from the portal was so complete that it was hard to image.
I’m glad for this post, though. It makes you more approachable, I think, while still being admirable just as much as the previous posts. It’s encouraging to think of you as a normal person, because then maybe there is hope for the rest of us to live like Princesses in our daily lives, haha. ♥
I’ve found that enjoying what you do and who you work with are the most important aspects of any job. I recently started to work in the Cyber programs office at my college, which is the title of all computer/technology degree programs. It’s fun work, and I get to do some graphic design as well. The best part is my boss, who is also the dean of the department and the only other person working in the office, is completely and totally awesome. ♥
I’m glad that you feel this post makes me more approachable Korin, I never intended for people to have an unrealistic view of me, I simply tend to write about thos aspects of my life that are more interesting and Princess-like.
Working with great people makes all the difference, congrats on your new job!
My work is more interesting than your work
Though, alas, I have no Spike to keep me company! ;_;
We need to get you a plant for your office too!
loool, this amuses me.
Aw, you look lovely. ^^ And thank you for this little peak into your life!
It’s my pleasure to share with you, thank you Olivia!
your dress is so cute!
Thank you Natalie! I like trying to find cute things to wear to work, unfortunately the dress code is strictly professional.
I usually work here, but I didn’t realise you lived in Australia. Or at least I got the impression that you lived here, anyway.
So the point of this comment was - do you know of anywhere to get nice Princess-esque clothing in Queensland? I’ve been trying to find some stores, but as you can imagine, it’s quite difficult. xD
Thanks!
Thanks to share that part of your life.
I ready everyday your blog and I specially like your inspiring lists ! So I have a question : how to be (feel like?) a princess at work ??
thanks in advance !
Of course, I wanted to write “I read everyday your blog !”
